The motion sensors are passive infrared motion sensors. Set up the remote sensor s after your thermostat is set up and ready to go it s time to set up the remote sensors. You should see a prompt to pair your room sensor on your ecobee s screen. If you have an ecobee4 it comes with one sensor but you ll need to buy them separately if you have the ecobee3 lite.

The remote sensors do not include a humidity sensor but the ecobee does. This means they use the natural infrared radiation given off by all objects as a means of detecting motion and therefore work regardless of light or dark. Simply put they do not require wi fi to work with one another. Ecobee wireless remote sensors use the 915mhz frequency band to communicate with ecobee thermostats.
